Parents/Guardians, Students & Community Members,
As we enter the new year and start the 2nd Semester, I feel it very important to provide you with an update and a few reminders of events that will be coming up. If you have any questions, please know you can always reach me at the school (862-3791) or through my email (email@example.com). Thank you for reading!
Proficiency Based Diploma
We will no longer require a Proficiency Based Diploma in RSU 22. The Class of 2020 was supposed to be the first class graduating with a Proficiency Based Diploma, but since the State removed that requirement, we are doing the same.
Standards (Learning Targets) will remain the foundational building blocks for all of our courses at Hampden Academy. They are important for assessing what knowledge & skills students will be working towards in each content area. The ability to communicate specific areas of strengths and weaknesses for students will remain a key component of education in RSU 22.
In order to earn credits (22 credits to Graduate) at Hampden Academy, students will have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency over a variety of standards in each course. The goal is that students can demonstrate proficiency in all areas, achieving their highest level of understanding, but knowing that proficiency may not be attained in every standard. Still using the 0-100 grading scale, students will have to show a preponderance of evidence towards understanding the standards, while completing the necessary coursework (assessments) to achieve a traditional score between 70 and 100.
SAT & MEA Science Assessments
Attention all 3rd year students! You will have two State Assessments to take this year in April. The MEA Science Assessment will be taken on Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019 and the SAT Test Day is Tuesday, April 9th, 2019. These 2 Assessments are important in gathering data to make decisions in programming at the district, school, and classroom level. It is imperative that students come to school that morning with a good night’s rest, prepared to put their best foot forward for the Assessment. We will provide snacks at well-timed breaks during the morning, but we encourage students to have a good meal the night before and breakfast the morning of.
If you are looking to purchase a yearbook for the 2018-2019 school year, please visit our website at Yearbook Order Information. This can be found on our Hampden Academy website under “News” (ha.rsu22.us). If you have any questions, please reach out to our Yearbook Advisor, Mr. Moore (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Absences & Dismissals
At Hampden Academy, we require a written note explaining why there was an absence; we keep these for our attendance records in order meet the State’s legal requirements. If you know ahead of time, please use our “Planned Absence” form, but if it is unexpected, please send an email or written note that communicates why the student was absent. A phone call is not required. For planned dismissals during the school day; please send your student with a note and reason for the dismissal. They need to give that to the main office prior to the dismissal time. They will be given a dismissal note allowing them to leave class at the appropriate time and avoiding us having to disrupt the class. When you do have a medical appointment please use the HA form to have signed at their office and present that to us when you return from your appointment.
