Barbara Parent RN BSN has been the school nurse at Hampden Academy for over 20 years. In addition to taking care of students when they are ill, she also educates them about disease prevention and wellness. Mrs. Parent is also a CPR and first aid instructor and a Red Cross Disaster Relief Nurse and was honored in 2014 by being selected as the Maine State School Nurse of the Year. She graduated from the University of Maine in Orono with a Bachelor's degree in Science and Nursing and before that attended Hampden Academy herself where she met her future husband when he was her date to the senior prom. They have a son, Christopher, who also graduated from Hampden Academy and UMaine and is now a civil engineer. She is the fifth generation of her family to live on family farm land in Winterport where she loves to hike, kayak, garden and read.
