Originally from Northern Ireland, Sharon earned her B.A. in English and Drama at Bangor University, North Wales and her Postgraduate Certificate of Education at Southampton University in England. After teaching in secondary schools in England for several years, Sharon moved to America in 1989 with her husband, Ben, and two daughters. They lived in Syracuse, New York, where Sharon did substitute teaching, while working on having her teaching credentials approved and having their third child.
In 1993 the family moved to Bangor, Maine, where Sharon worked at Penobscot Theatre both as an actor and an educator, starting an after school program for children and the Shakespeare in the Schools Program, which travelled to schools throughout the state with workshops and also touring productions. Eventually deciding she needed to not be on the road so much, Sharon went back to school herself and acquired her Masters in Education from the University of Maine in Orono and on graduating was hired at Hampden Academy, where she has been teaching since 2003.
Sharon was the drama coach at Hampden Academy for ten years and is currently a member of Faculty Council. She is also President of the Penobscot Theatre Board.
