Consider Engineering

The UMaine Pulp & Paper Foundation's "Consider Engineering" program is offered three times in July to groups of 34 high school students who have completed their junior year of study and who are well-suited to becoming engineers. The four-day, free of charge, on-campus "camp" gives students opportunities to experience the rewards and challenges of both college life and technical careers. Students participate in about 20 activities and are introduced to nearly two dozen UMaine faculty, engineers and engineering students. Admission to the program is competitive with about 2/3 of the applicants being selected to participate.

Eastern Maine Medical Center Student Volunteer Program

Considering the Medical Field? - Here's a great way to experience the environment at Maine's 2nd largest acute care hospital!*

EMMC's Student Volunteer Program offers youth an outstanding opportunity to provide community service and a chance to learn about medical settings, all while developing new friendships.

The application process includes an application, personal interview and orientation. We have designed the application process similar to applying for a job to give students an experience in job search and interview skills. The deadline for applications is mid March and interviews are conducted in April and early May.

The program is open to students age 14 (must be 14 by 6/30) to 17. Acceptance into the program is based on a student's application, personal interview and availability. Student volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of (2) four hour shifts per week.

The 10 week program commences in mid June and concludes in early August. A student is eligible to volunteer throughout the school year once he/she has participated in the summer program.
