Beekeeping Club

HA Beekeepers work with our expert Beekeeping Mentor to introduce students to this amazing hobby. We provide all the necessary safety equipment and tend to our very own HA hives that are situated on the periphery of our school campus. We also harvest and market our very own honey, make lip balms and teach various aspects of small business ownership. All our profits go back into the club to purchase supplies and equipment.

Dirigo State

DIRIGO STATE is a program designed to provide experiential instruction in the
principles of state government. You will spend a week participating in the same political and
governmental process as citizens and public officials of the State of Maine. This is an experiential learning program, and you will be encouraged to ask questions, speak your mind, and participate. This is only open to HA Juniors and only a few students will be sponsored by local American Legion groups to attend.

Drama Club

HA Drama welcomes all students to participate as actors or on the tech crew! We have a fall season for our main stage production and a spring season for a shorter play and the children's play. Any interested students should see or email Ms. Guare for more information!

Envirothon

Envirothon is a natural resources problem solving competition where teams of 3-5 students compete in their knowledge of forestry, soils, aquatics, and wildlife, and propose a solution to a real-life current issue problem. Everyone is welcome! No experience is required.

ESports

Kids will come in after school to practice particular ESports games picked out for us by the MPA. No equipment needed, no experience required.

Fitness Room

Area to exercise. Experience is not required, but students must follow the safety rules and be respectful to others.

For the 2022-2023 school year the HA Fitness room will be staffed by Mr. Wilcher Monday through Friday (following school calendar) from 2:30-4:00 PM.

 

French Club

Everyone is welcome at French Club, students are not required to take French to attend. We do a variety of activities connected to French culture: last year we played games (inside and outside) , did crafts, karaoke, cooking and celebrated holidays from French-speaking countries.

Game Club/MTG Club

The Game Club/MTG Club is for people who like Magic: The Gathering and other turn-based card games and/or strategy board games! Right now, we pretty much exclusively play Magic: The Gathering because that is the preference of the students involved. However, we are open to other games and activities as well. Students are allowed to play whatever game they want during club time.

Each time we meet, I hand out 3-5 new packs of MTG Booster Packs to lucky winners. We draw the winners at random, so everyone has a chance to win! No equipment is required. I have over 15,000 cards for students to choose from to create their decks and keep for themselves! All cards were donated by myself and other local MTG players!

GSTA

GSTA will serve as a safe space for conversations, friendships, guest speakers, and fun with students who are part of (or advocates for) the LGBTQ+ community at Hampden Academy.

JCL (Junior Classical League)

Our biweekly HAJCL activity meetings are fun, engaging activities on topics pertaining to the ancient world. We will meet more frequently in the weeks leading up to our three conventions. Students must be in Latin or Classical Humanities to participate in HAJCLKey Club

Key Club

Key Club is a service organization sponsored by Hampden Kiwanis. We volunteer in both the outside community and our school community. Anyone can join! The service requirement is 20 hours of volunteering for the year.

Robotics

Robotics is open to all grades and all ability levels. Students will use the VEX robotics platform and all materials will be provided for them. This year's competitive game is called 'Over Under". Details, rules, and videos can be seen at vexrobotics.com

Spanish Club

Everyone is welcomed. We are a social group. In the past, we have watched movies and had popcorn; we have made holiday ornaments; and we have celebrated significant dates specific to Spanish speaking cultures. We raise money for hugitforward.org to help build bottle schools in Guatemala.

Speech and Debate Team

Absolutely no experience needed! If you are interested in debating current events, giving speeches, and generally improving your writing and argumentative skills then Speech and Debate is the team for you!

Student Council

The council helps to provide student voice within the building and is made up of 20 elected members, 5 from each grade level, who help facilitate positive changes for the student body.

Tri-M Music Association

This is open to music students, grades 10, 11, 12. Students apply and are reviewed by the music faculty for their scholarship, character, and service. Students must maintain at least a 93 average in their music classes and an 85 average overall. Members promote music in the school and RSU22 community through their service activities.
